One of the major energy draws on the power grid in the U.S. is commercial and industrial lighting. 60 years ago, building owners began switching to fluorescent tubes to reduce energy over incandescent lighting. 10 years ago, the transition began from tubes and gas to solid-state LEDs.

This year marks our 10th year marketing LED lighting solutions. The evolution has been been astounding, and continues to this day. We've been there every step of the way through the early learn curves by specifiers, to the introduction of sexy, thin luminaires, to the barrier-busting plug-and-play bulbs.

And today, we're creating marketing stories for lighting companies that are navigating to even greater energy savings through networked lighting controls. The first wave of control solutions has come and gone, proven unaffordable and complicated to deploy.  The second wave is challenging to sell because of its high deployment costs, dedicated use, and proprietary platform.  The third wave is emerging now -- open architecture platforms that use lighting systems to simultaneously convert to LED for energy savings, simply deploy networked lighting controls, and enable parallel uses of the lighting systems for other purposes such as an IoT gateway or for indoor location-based services.
